IABA National Scholarships
IABA Foundation Scholarship: IABA Foundation grants scholarships each year to law students who have demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of the Iranian-American community. Applicants must be at an accredited law school in the United States and are not otherwise receiving full educational funding from another organization. In addition to funding, scholarship recipient(s) will receive one year of mentorship from an IABA mentor.
The scholarship award is $2,500.

Our scholarships are generously funded by local IABA Chapters, donations by individual sponsors, as well as law firms and community organizations. We are privileged and proud to have the support of our local Chapters and members of our legal community in building a team to support the future success of Iranian students. Completion of items 1 through 5 of the Scholarship Application is mandatory. Failure to complete the entire application will result in elimination. If the information requested does not apply, enter N/A.
ELIGIBILITY – To be eligible, an applicant must satisfy the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in or accepted for enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school
- Be in a position to accept the scholarship in the school year for which it is being awarded
- Be a full-time student, part-time, evening, or LLM student
- Is not already a recipient of full funding for education from another organization (e.g., students receiving a full scholarship from an academic institution, members of the Armed Services attending US Military Academies, students receiving full reimbursement from an employer)
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FORM
- Submit only one application package.
- Complete the application form.
- Upload all of the application materials listed below.
- All application materials must be completed in English. For LLM or other students with a non-U.S. academic background, include official translations of any non-English academic materials as applicable.
- No application materials will be returned for completion and unfortunately no exceptions will be made.
- Do NOT submit photographs of yourself with the application.
- Must not already be a recipient of full funding for education (e.g., students receiving a full scholarship from an academic institution, members of the Armed Services attending US Military Academies, students receiving full reimbursement from an employer)
DEADLINES
To be accepted for review, an applicant must submit ALL REQUIRED ITEMS as listed below by the following deadlines. Late applications will NOT be accepted.
- IABA NorCal Public Interest Scholarship – 11:59 p.m. PST on July 31, 2024 (opens June 1, 2024)
- IABA Judge Iravani-Sani Public Interest Scholarship – 11:59 p.m. PST on July 31, 2024 (opens June 1, 2024)
- IABA NorCal General Scholarship – 11:59 p.m. PST on July 31, 2024 (opens June 1, 2024)
- IABA Foundation Scholarship – 11:59 p.m. PST on July 31, 2024 (opens June 1, 2024)

APPLICATION MATERIALS
All information must be provided in English. Incomplete applications or application packages will be immediately disqualified from review with no further follow-up. Applications emailed after the applicable deadline will be disqualified from review with no further follow-up.
The following items must be submitted:
- Completed Application Form
- Professional Information (Resume) – On 8.5 x 11 paper, supply a 1 page summarizing your education history, work and other professional experience (including your duties, starting and terminating dates), and any other pertinent information such as community involvement and publications. Briefly describe any research projects you have completed.
- Unofficial Transcripts – Provide unofficial copies of all transcripts (including anywhere that you did not receive a diploma from) for your entire undergraduate college/university enrollment. Also, provide an unofficial copy of your law school transcript. If for some reason you are unable to submit transcripts, contact scholarship@iabafoundation.org prior to the scholarship deadline.
- Applicant’s Written Statement – A typewritten statement or essay written by the applicant, NO MORE THAN TWO PAGES (SINGLE-SIDED, 1.5-SPACED, 12pt OR LARGER TIMES NEW ROMAN FONT) describing:
- Why you would like to be an attorney, and/or how you believe you will make a difference as an attorney with respect to issues, concerns or matters of interest to the Iranian-American community.
- What influenced you to study law; and
- What you anticipate the scholarship money awarded would be used for (note, you may be required to provide information regarding a specific program/event for which you intend on using this scholarship if noted)
- RECOMMENDATION LETTER – Only required for the Judge Iravani-Sani Public Interest Scholarship. You must submit at least one recommendation letter.
