The Iranian American Bar Association, San Diego Chapter, is pleased to announce Omeed Latifi, Esq., as its Member of the Month for August 2017.
Even in his early days as a law student, Omeed has committed himself to supporting and providing solutions for immigrants seeking a better life in the United States. A 2014 graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law, Omeed developed his passion to support the disenfranchised while serving as a legal intern and law clerk for the USD Immigration Clinic, where he guided clients through the minefield of seeking legal residential status and pursuit of remedies provided under President Obama’s landmark executive order, DACA.
Now as a practicing attorney in San Diego, Omeed remains dedicated to the cause, as he has served as Of Counsel to various, prominent immigration law firms. However, Omeed’s commitment to assisting individuals seeking a better life does not stop at his professional endeavors, as Omeed has proudly served on the board of IABA-San Diego as its Pro Bono and Community Service Director. It is here where Omeed continues to impact the local community, heading up IABA’s joint effort with Yalla – San Diego in the promotion and advancement of the two organization’s annual charity soccer tournament, which recently took place on July 22nd. Omeed steadfastly guided IABA’s fundraising and logistical efforts to ensure that this year’s event would be, and indeed was, a smashing success.
Humbly, Omeed deflects credit for his achievements and his stewardship of IABA’s community service programs, instead focusing on what IABA has done for him, as he notes, “joining IABA has been great for my career since it was the first organization that I actively participated in. Since then it has provided me with a great resource to ask questions of other members about situations that have arisen in my professional and personal life, since many have gone through similar experiences.”
Omeed did not need IABA to expand his desire to assist his community or fuel his devotion to his clients and their needs; nevertheless, Omeed keenly credits IABA with expanding his network and providing a platform for him to bounce ideas off of like-minded individuals. As for advice he can offer to prospective members, Omeed states, “Try to find mentors while you are in law school that you can rely on, not only to get through law school but to help get your career started. There are many attorneys who are willing to help and provide great information… you just need to ask.”
Please take a moment to congratulate Omeed on his honor as Member of the Month for August 2017, as we encourage you to reach out to him for advice on navigating the early stages of your legal career.
