Parisa Weiss, Esq.

The Iranian-American Bar Association, San Diego Chapter, is pleased to announce Parisa Weiss, Esq., as its Member of the Month for October 2017.

Originally a Kansas native, Parisa made the trip west to San Diego just like many others within our city’s legal community, embarking on the first steps of a future career as an attorney at one of San Diego’s law schools. Parisa’s risk-taking measures early in her career paid off, as she started her own law practice less than a year after graduating from Thomas Jefferson Law School in 2004, setting up a thriving practice for several years focused on trusts and estates. Thereafter in 2012, Parisa joined one of San Diego’s oldest and most preeminent firms, Seltzer Caplan McMahon & Vitek LLP, where she continues to assist her clients and those seeking the firm’s assistance with the complexities of estate planning, probate and trust & conservatorship administration.

Despite her focused efforts to further her professional career, Parisa never lost sight of the virtues of giving back to the community that allowed her to so quickly prosper. Indeed, Parisa devotes much of her free time to non-profit causes. Parisa currently serves as a task force member for the Women and Families Resource Fair, hosted by the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program. Additionally, Parisa is an active volunteer with the Human Trafficking Collaborative, a committee of the Lawyers Club of San Diego focused on raising awareness and addressing the growing problem of human trafficking in our community. Parisa also finds time to volunteer with the San Diego ACLU as part of its annual Constitution Day program.

Even with the time spent on developing her practice and bettering her community, Parisa never lost track of her Iranian roots, often traveling back to Iran to stay in touch with her culture. And now, as a member of the close-knit Iranian-American legal community, Parisa continues her support for IABA-San Diego, crediting the organization with developing and solidifying her personal and professional network. Parisa notes, “Joining IABA has allowed me to connect with other Iranian-American attorneys and business leaders in San Diego. I have forged great friendships as a result, which I continue to treasure.”

As for the benefits of joining IABA and how it can positively impact a new attorney’s career, Parisa states, “I think an important part of life is the relationships you have. IABA allows you to strengthen your relationships in the Iranian-American community. It is an opportunity to receive excellent mentorship from more seasoned attorneys.”

Please take a moment to congratulate Parisa Weiss on her honor as Member of the Month for October 2017. We implore you to seek her out at the next general meeting, mixer or bar association event for advice on how to aggressively pursue your own practice, how to balance career goals alongside the demands of parenthood, and how to develop a sense of harmony within the community.
