The Iranian American Bar Association NorCal (Chapter (IABA NorCal) and the AILA NorCal New Members Division (NMD) invite you to attend our free MCLE addressing “Strategies to Deal with Adjudication Delays.” RSVP required by May 21, 2019.
This MCLE will address: (1) the growing concerns and trends regarding delays in adjudication, particularly for clients from countries covered by the travel ban; (2) strategies such as pursuing mandamus action in federal district court, congressional outreach, USCIS inquiries, and more; and (3) Q&A with the speakers. While this MCLE is geared towards immigration practitioners, all IABA and AILA members are welcome.

- Sima Alizadeh is an Immigration Attorney at Pars Equality Center, a nonprofit organization, aimed at serving low-income Middle Eastern and South Asian communities of the Bay Area and Los Angeles, with both legal and social services. She has served as an Attorney Volunteer for AILA’s Mesa Verde Detention Project and she actively contributes to AILA’s Middle Eastern Interest Group (MEIG).
- Shahpour (Shawn) Matloob is an Immigration & Nationality Law Certified Specialist by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization in San Francisco. He has practiced U.S. Immigration and Nationality law with an emphasis on family immigration, naturalization and asylum since 1999. Shawn is a Member of American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) NorCal and its Advisory Council as SF Citizenship & Immigration Services Co-Liaison. He formerly served as AILA NorCal Liaison to SF Custom & Border Protection, Immigration Court, and Asylum Office. He was also a member of AILA NorCal Unauthorized Practice of Immigration Law Committee. Shawn has served as a volunteer mentor attorney on asylum and other immigration issues to AILA and non-immigration attorneys and law students. He is a speaker at different organizations regarding asylum law and practice and other immigration issues. Shawn was born in Tehran, Iran, fled Iran as an unaccompanied minor at the age of 14 and entered the US as a refugee. He graduated with a J.D. with International Law concentration from UC Hastings (1999) and B.A. in Political Science and Near Eastern Studies from UC Berkeley (1996).
- Zachary M. Nightingale practices immigration law in San Francisco, California. A partner at Van Der Hout, LLP, his immigration practice since 1996 focuses on deportation defense and litigation in immigration and federal courts. He received his J.D. from Stanford Law School, following an M.S. (Stanford, mathematics) and A.B. (U.C. Berkeley, mathematics) and is certified by the State Bar of California as an expert in immigration law. Mr. Nightingale was honored with AILA’s 2003 Jack Wasserman Memorial Award for excellence in litigation and was the 2014 NIP/NLG member honoree for outstanding contributions to the cause of immigrant justice.
