IABA Resource: Changes to U.S. Iran Sanctions

On August 24, 2026, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) suspended several longstanding authorizations under U.S. sanctions regulations on Iran, affecting areas including personal remittances, education and academic exchange, conferences, and sports.

IABA has released a new resource explaining what changed, what these suspensions may mean in practice, and what important exemptions and authorizations remain available.

The changes do not mean that every Iran-related transaction or activity is prohibited. Our resource is intended to help Iranians, Iranian Americans, and U.S. institutions better understand the current landscape.
