IABA Submits Comment Opposing Asylum Work Authorization Restrictions
On April 24, 2026, the Iranian American Bar Association submitted a comment opposing proposed DHS rule changes that would delay and restrict work authorization for asylum seekers, including extending wait times and allowing application pauses. The rule would shift the burden of systemic delays onto vulnerable applicants, increase instability, and disproportionately harm Iranian asylum seekers facing unique financial and legal barriers. IABA urges DHS to withdraw the rule and focus on reducing backlogs while preserving access to lawful employment.
